How this valuation is worked out
Owner-run electrical contractors are priced on SDE at roughly 2.5 to 4 times. Once a service or project manager runs operations, buyers price on EBITDA at about 3.5 to 6.5 times, with private-equity-backed trade platforms active at the top for businesses above roughly $1M of EBITDA.
A worked example
$2.4M of revenue with $350K of SDE, roughly 60% residential service. At 3–3.5× that is $1.05M–$1.23M; documented service agreements and a licensed employee willing to stay push it toward the top.

Common questions
Does new-construction work price lower?
Usually. It is tied to building cycles and often to a few builders, so buyers treat it as higher risk than residential service.
What about my licence?
In many states it is tied to you personally, so the buyer needs a plan — a qualifying employee, or you staying on for a period.
Is backlog counted?
Yes. Signed work not yet completed gives the buyer visibility, and buyers pay for that certainty.
