How this valuation is worked out
Most privately held businesses trade on a multiple of profit (EBITDA or seller's discretionary earnings). We apply the current multiple range for your category, then adjust for the things buyers pay up or down for: how much of your revenue repeats, how long you have been trading, and how much the business depends on you personally.
A worked example
A business turning over $1.2M with $180K of profit, half of it from repeat customers, and an owner who works in it part-time. At a 3.5× multiple that is $630K; the recurring revenue and the owner's limited involvement push it toward the top of the 2.5–4× band, so a realistic range is $450K–$720K.

What moves your number
- Profit quality — clean, provable earnings beat a bigger but messier number
- Recurring or contracted revenue, which buyers pay a premium for
- How replaceable the owner is day to day
- Customer concentration — one client at 40% of revenue lowers the multiple

Common questions
Is this a formal valuation?
No. It is an indicative range based on the figures you enter and current market multiples. A formal appraisal requires a review of your accounts.
How accurate is it?
It reflects what buyers in our network are actually paying for businesses of that size and type. Real offers vary with diligence, but the range is a fair starting point.
What happens after I see my range?
Nothing, unless you ask. If you want offers, you can share your contact details and we take a summary to buyers active in your category.
