How this valuation is worked out
Fabrication shops are priced on adjusted earnings, commonly around 3 to 5 times, with an equipment appraisal acting as a floor and any owned building valued separately.
A worked example
A certified fabrication shop with $3.6M of revenue, four repeat industrial customers and $540K of adjusted earnings after paying a shop manager. At 4× that is roughly $2.2M, with an equipment appraisal of $1.3M underpinning it and work in progress settled separately.

Common questions
Do my certifications transfer?
Shop-level qualifications usually survive a change of ownership if the qualified people stay, but they are re-verified. Individual welder qualifications belong to the welder.
Is my equipment counted on top?
Not usually added to the earnings multiple, but an appraisal sets a floor beneath it if the earnings are modest.
How is work in progress handled?
Jobs part-finished at closing and any progress billings are settled separately, alongside working capital.
