How this valuation is worked out
Practices with associates and a practice manager are priced on EBITDA, after the owner-vet's pay is normalised to a market associate salary. Typical multiples run 4.5 to 8 times, with corporate consolidators active at the top. Single-doctor practices where the owner does most of the medicine are priced on SDE at roughly 2.5 to 4 times.
A worked example
A two-doctor clinic collecting $2.4M with $420K of EBITDA after paying the owner-vet a market associate salary. At 5–6.5× that is $2.1M–$2.7M; a stable associate and a strong appointment book support the top of the range.
Multiple ranges reviewed September 2026, based on offers buyers in our network are making today. They are a guide, not a quote — see how the process works.
What moves your number
- How much production runs through the owner rather than associates
- Associate retention and whether they will stay after the sale
- Revenue per doctor and appointment capacity
- Whether the real estate is owned and can be sold or leased to the buyer

Common questions
Why do corporates pay more?
They buy scale and can fold your back office into theirs, so they underwrite a higher multiple — usually with a holdback, equity rollover or a post-sale employment commitment attached.
Does my building count?
It is valued separately. Most owners either sell it with the practice or lease it to the buyer on a long-term lease.
What if I am the only vet?
You can still sell, but expect an SDE-based price and a longer transition, since the buyer is taking on your client relationships.
