How this valuation is worked out

Shops are priced on seller's discretionary earnings, commonly around 1.5 to 3 times. The multiple depends almost entirely on how much of the income survives the artists — and the owner — walking out.

A worked example

A six-chair studio on booth rent, collecting $18K a month from artists with $84K of seller's discretionary earnings and an owner who no longer tattoos. At 2.5× that is roughly $210K. The same shop where the owner books half the revenue would be priced far closer to equipment value.

Multiple ranges reviewed September 2026, based on offers buyers in our network are making today. They are a guide, not a quote — see how the process works.

What moves your number

  • Booth rent income versus commission income from artists
  • Whether the owner is also the top-earning artist
  • Artist tenure, contracts and how much of the client base follows them
  • Lease terms, permits and the studio's own review profile and following

Common questions

What if I am the busiest artist?

Buyers subtract your personal book from the earnings, because it leaves with you. Shops on booth rent sell for more for exactly this reason.

Do health permits transfer?

Usually not. The buyer normally applies in their own name, and artists carry their own licenses.

Is the social following worth anything?

Only if it belongs to the shop rather than to individual artists, and only if the accounts transfer with the sale.
