How this valuation is worked out
These shops are priced on seller's discretionary earnings, commonly around 2.5 to 4 times, plus saleable materials. Repeat commercial work and sign maintenance contracts push the multiple up.
A worked example
A sign company with $1.9M of revenue, about a fifth of it from maintenance contracts and national accounts, and $310K of seller's discretionary earnings after hiring an estimator. At 3.25× that is roughly $1.01M, plus saleable substrate and vinyl at cost.
Multiple ranges reviewed September 2026, based on offers buyers in our network are making today. They are a guide, not a quote — see how the process works.
What moves your number
- Repeat commercial and national accounts versus one-off retail jobs
- Sign service and maintenance contracts, which recur
- Electrical sign licensing, permitting experience and install crews
- Equipment age, lease obligations and whether the owner is the estimator

Common questions
Does a franchise brand help or hurt?
It brings recognition and systems, but the franchisor must approve your buyer and the buyer takes on the fees.
Are maintenance contracts valued separately?
They are not a separate line, but they lift the multiple because the revenue repeats without selling.
What happens to jobs in progress?
Work in progress and deposits are normally settled between you and the buyer at closing.
