How this valuation is worked out

Owner-run salons and day spas are priced at roughly 1.5 to 3 times seller's discretionary earnings. Med spas and multi-location groups with a management team, memberships and medical oversight are valued on EBITDA and often reach 3 to 5 times.

A worked example

A salon with $650K of revenue and $180K of SDE, retail at 10% of sales and non-solicitation agreements in place. At 2–2.5× that is $360K–$450K. A med spa with the same earnings and memberships might reach 3–3.5×.

Common questions

What multiple do salons sell for?

Most owner-run salons and day spas sell for roughly 1.5 to 3 times SDE; med spas with medical oversight and memberships often more.

Does booth rental lower the value?

It is usually valued more conservatively, since the owner controls neither pricing nor client relationships.

Do memberships help?

Yes, though buyers also account for prepaid packages and gift cards the new owner must honour.
