How this valuation is worked out

These businesses are priced on seller's discretionary earnings, typically around 2.5 to 4 times. The multiple mainly reflects how much of the earning power survives the owner leaving.

A worked example

A locksmith company with $840K of revenue, four technicians and 55% commercial work. Seller's discretionary earnings of $185K after a dispatcher and with the owner off the vans. At 3.25× that is roughly $600K including vans and saleable stock.

Multiple ranges reviewed September 2026, based on offers buyers in our network are making today. They are a guide, not a quote — see how the process works.

What moves your number

  • Commercial and property-management accounts as a share of revenue
  • Warranty, insurance and manufacturer authorisations that repeat
  • Technician tenure and whether the owner still runs calls
  • Transferable listings, phone numbers and review profiles
