How this valuation is worked out
Movers are priced on seller's discretionary earnings, typically around 2.5 to 4.5 times, with the fleet and any owned warehouse adding to or underpinning that number.
A worked example
A local mover with $2.6M of revenue, 30% commercial, $220K of annual storage income, eight trucks averaging six years old and $430K of seller's discretionary earnings after hiring an estimator. At 3.5× that is roughly $1.5M.

What moves your number
- Commercial and corporate relocation work as a share of revenue
- Storage income, which is recurring and high margin
- Van line affiliation and whether it transfers
- Claims history, crew tenure and fleet age

Common questions
Are my trucks included?
Yes, since they produce the earnings. Their value acts as a floor if the earnings multiple comes out lower.
Does a van line affiliation transfer?
Generally only with the van line's approval, so review the agency agreement early.
Is storage revenue valued differently?
It is more attractive than moving revenue because it recurs at high margin. Break it out separately.
