How this valuation is worked out
Franchise resales are priced on seller's discretionary earnings after royalties and ad fund contributions, which are real costs a buyer inherits. The remaining term on your franchise agreement, any required remodel, and how quickly the franchisor approves buyers all move the number.
A worked example
A single-unit franchise with $1.3M of sales and $165K of SDE after a 6% royalty and 2% ad fund, seven years left on the agreement and a manager running the store. At 3× that is roughly $495K, less the cost of a remodel the franchisor requires in year two.
Multiple ranges reviewed September 2026, based on offers buyers in our network are making today. They are a guide, not a quote — see how the process works.
What moves your number
- Years left on the franchise agreement and renewal terms
- Royalty and ad fund percentage, since they cap the margin
- Any remodel or equipment refresh the franchisor will require
- Whether a manager runs the unit day to day

Common questions
Do I need the franchisor's approval to sell?
Almost always. Most agreements require the franchisor to approve the buyer and charge a transfer fee, and some hold a right of first refusal.
Does a multi-unit group sell for more?
Usually yes. Several units with a management layer attract larger buyers and a higher multiple than a single owner-run store.
How does an upcoming remodel affect price?
Buyers subtract the expected cost, often close to dollar for dollar, so knowing the requirement before you list protects the price.
