How this valuation is worked out

Flooring businesses are priced on seller's discretionary earnings, with saleable inventory added at cost on top. Buyers look at the mix of retail, builder and commercial work, the lease on the showroom, and whether installers are employees or subcontractors.

A worked example

A retail flooring store with $2.2M of revenue and $310K of SDE, split evenly between homeowners and builders. At 3.5× that is roughly $1.09M, plus about $140K of saleable inventory at cost.

Multiple ranges reviewed September 2026, based on offers buyers in our network are making today. They are a guide, not a quote — see how the process works.

What moves your number

  • Retail showroom versus installation-only versus builder work
  • Saleable inventory at cost, and how much is aged or discontinued
  • Installer crews, subcontractor agreements and classification records
  • Showroom lease terms and warehouse space

Common questions

Is inventory included in the price?

Normally it is added at cost on top of the business value, with aged or discontinued stock discounted or excluded.

Do builder contracts help or hurt?

Both. They give volume, but they concentrate revenue with a few general contractors and usually run at thinner margins.

How important is the showroom lease?

Very. A buyer needs a transferable lease with reasonable remaining term, or the price reflects the risk of relocating.
