How this valuation is worked out

Driving schools are priced on seller's discretionary earnings, commonly around 2.5 to 4 times, with the vehicle fleet setting a floor. Licensing and any third-party testing authority shape the buyer pool.

A worked example

A teen driver education school with $860K of revenue, two district contracts, nine dual-control cars and $195K of seller's discretionary earnings after a scheduler. At 3.25× that is roughly $634K, with prepaid lesson packages credited to the buyer at closing.

Multiple ranges reviewed September 2026, based on offers buyers in our network are making today. They are a guide, not a quote — see how the process works.

What moves your number

  • State licensing of the school and of instructors, and how it transfers
  • Third-party testing authorization where the state grants it
  • School district and high school contracts
  • Instructor retention, fleet age, insurance claims and prepaid tuition

Common questions

Does my school license transfer?

Usually not automatically. The buyer generally applies for their own approval, which often sets the closing date.

What happens to prepaid tuition?

Lessons already paid for but not delivered are normally credited to the buyer at closing, since they have to teach them.

Are CDL schools valued differently?

Same basis, but buyers look closely at funding sources such as workforce grants and carrier-sponsored programs, and at truck condition.
