How this valuation is worked out

Individual buyers typically pay 60% to 80% of annual collections. DSOs price on EBITDA instead, usually 4 to 7.5 times, which often produces a higher number for larger practices with associate dentists in place.

A worked example

Collections of $1.4M with $420K of adjusted profit after a market-rate associate salary. At 4.5–6× that is $1.9M–$2.5M, with hygiene recall, fee-for-service mix and modern equipment supporting the top of the range.

Multiple ranges reviewed September 2026, based on offers buyers in our network are making today. They are a guide, not a quote — see how the process works.

What moves your number

  • Annual collections and the trend across three years
  • Hygiene revenue as a share of the total
  • Insurance participation and fee schedules
  • Whether associates are in place or the owner does all production

Common questions

Percentage of collections or EBITDA?

Smaller solo practices sell on collections; practices with associates and over roughly $1.5M in collections usually do better on an EBITDA basis with a DSO.

Do I have to stay after selling?

DSO deals almost always require the owner to work on for two to five years. Private sales can be a clean exit.

How does my building affect it?

Property is valued and sold or leased separately from the practice.
