How this valuation is worked out
Most independent shops are priced at roughly 2.5 to 4 times seller's discretionary earnings, reaching 4 to 4.5 times where technician retention is strong and the shop does not depend on the owner turning hours. Larger shops with a manager in place move to an EBITDA basis.
A worked example
A four-bay shop with $950K of revenue and $226K of SDE, two long-tenured technicians and modern equipment. At 3–3.5× that is $680K–$790K; one producing tech and a short lease would sit nearer 2.5×.
Multiple ranges reviewed September 2026, based on offers buyers in our network are making today. They are a guide, not a quote — see how the process works.

Common questions
What multiple do repair shops sell for?
Usually 2.5 to 4 times SDE, higher where technicians are long-tenured and the owner is not the main producer.
Do fleet contracts help?
They can, when backed by real volume — but heavy dependence on one or two accounts is discounted as concentration risk.
What about environmental checks?
Buyers ask about used oil and solvent disposal and any history of spills or tanks. Documented practices speed up diligence.
